Job summary

County of Santa Barbara is seeking a Deputy District Attorney II to join the District Attorney's Office in a full-time role. The position may be assigned to Lompoc or Santa Maria with potential future vacancies in Santa Barbara.

The ideal candidate will handle case investigation, trial preparation, and prosecution of misdemeanor and felony offenses, while guiding less experienced staff and collaborating with partners in law enforcement and the community.

Qualifications

• Active membership in the State Bar of California; completion of core courses required for a law degree.
• Ability to manage caseloads, perform case investigation, trial preparation, and prosecution.
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Interviews and advises victims and witnesses; studies, interprets, and applies laws and authorities for prosecutions.
• Prepares legal pleadings such as complaints, answers, demurrers, discovery, and judgments.
• Prosecutes a variety of cases including felony and misdemeanor trials; conducts preliminary hearings.
• Performs related work such as petitions, reports, and correspondence.
• Engages in continuing legal education and training; collaborates with law enforcement and community organizations.
• Participates in outreach to schools or community groups on public safety or justice.
