Job description

All USA | Service Employees International Union (SEIU) | Grade MGT G | Salary: $145,234

About SEIU

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a union of about 2 million diverse members working in healthcare, the public sector, and property services. We fight for our Vision for a Just Society: where all workers are valued and all people respected, no matter where we come from or what color we are; where all families and communities can thrive; and where we leave a better and more equitable world for generations to come. We are an anti-racist union determined to check corporate power and uproot structural racism through unions, worker power, collective action, and government, legislative, and political action. We fight for Unions for All and a Government that Works for All so that all of us, across race and place, can have power together in unions and participate fully in our democracy.

The Opportunity

The Deputy Director of Integrated Organizing Communications provides strategic and practical leadership across SEIU's organizing and union strength priorities. This role oversees communications and digital management and strategy for national campaigns, and leads a team of skilled communications and digital practitioners to execute vibrant, cohesive, worker-centered campaigns. The Deputy provides high-level leadership and thought partnership on the Worker Power team and manages a team of at least three (3) direct reports. This is a key role on the leadership team in the Narrative and Engagement department, operating on the Worker Power team — the dedicated integrated communications and digital media engine for the union's core growth and campaign efforts, specifically supporting the Organizing Hub and Union Strength initiatives. The team's primary function is to translate the union's strategic organizing goals into actionable, amplified, and cohesive communications plans and campaigns.

What You'll Do
Campaign Strategy & Digital Leadership
  • Lead the development and execution of vibrant, cohesive worker-centered communications and digital strategy, building capacity across priority campaigns to build a multiracial movement of workers.
  • Drive narrative and messaging coordination and create dynamic days of action, collaborating across the Narrative and Engagement Department and Organizing Hub.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Work closely with the Director of Organizing Narrative and Engagement, the Deputy Director of Digital Organizing, and other staff to build out and oversee the union's organizing campaigns, including day-to-day management of organizing Assistant Directors and other campaign-assigned staff.
  • Provide consistent leadership and model good judgment as a key member of the Organizing Narrative team; supervise the work of consultants, as applicable.
  • Prioritize the growth and development of staff, including training, feedback, reviews, skills, and career development.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work directly with Organizing Hub deputies and campaign staff to create and share communications strategy, messaging, and materials that drive engagement of workers and other stakeholders and build awareness of SEIU's organizing demands.
  • As part of the senior leadership team in the communications department, coordinate strategic communications plans and goals with colleagues to tell one cohesive story.
Program & Project Management
  • Own clear and effective planning, budgeting, and project management, coordinating with divisions, departments, and campaign leaders.
  • Handle multiple priority projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
Required Qualifications
  • Seven to eight years of related work experience, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to act and organize time with independence, representing the International Union with independent judgment and a high level of professionalism.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with International Union staff, campaign staff, local leaders and members, nonunion workers, and community partners to implement communications strategy.
  • Proven experience managing a team, including at least three direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of unions and other advocacy organizations.
  • Real-world communications and organizing experience is prioritized regardless of formal education.
Beyond Credentials, We Are Looking For Someone Who
  • Models consistent leadership, intentional teamwork, and a genuine desire to grow as a campaigner.
  • Can handle multiple "priority" projects simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Brings a multiracial, worker-centered movement-building lens to campaign and digital strategy.
  • Is a strong people manager who prioritizes staff growth and development.
Compensation & Location

Annual salary: $145,234 (Grade MGT G). Based anywhere in the USA. Work is generally performed in an office setting, but this job may require work in the field or other settings to complete assignments. Must be available for frequent travel with overnight stays, and long and irregular hours.
