Job summary

Build Up Justice NYC seeks a Deputy Director/Attorney, Compliance and Training to supervise PAHB program attorneys serving low-income tenants in Brooklyn. You will oversee casework, ensure ethical compliance, mentor staff, and lead education initiatives for tenants and partner orgs.

The role includes case review, staff development, and collaboration with program leadership to strengthen housing protections and advocacy in eviction proceedings and related actions.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York Bar or eligibility to obtain admission.
• Minimum 5 years in New York civil and/or federal public interest litigation; housing law preferred.
• Experience supervising a team of attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
• Experience working with low-income tenants, nonprofits or coalitions.
• Strong communication and writing skills in a multilingual environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead weekly case assignment meetings and manage attorney staff development.
• Oversee program procedures, case management and grant reporting.
• Supervise writing attorneys on briefs, pleadings, and trainings.
• Represent clients in eviction cases and related proceedings when needed.
• Provide trainings for community organizations on Know-Your-Rights housing topics.
