This role requires OCONUS travel and flexibility in scheduling. Candidates should have a technical background, preferably with experience in avionics and electronics.

A competitive salary range of $59,410 – $90,730 is offered, commensurate with experience.

Job Summary

General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA‑SI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a provider of military and commercial engineering services. GA‑SI is a leading-edge expert in systems integration technologies, reliability improvements, and controls system design. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Avionics Technician in our Aero Services division supporting the MQ‑9. This is a deployable role that requires OCONUS travel, a FLEX schedule, and the ability to live at any location. Under general supervision, the position is responsible for technical and operational support in the installation, application, and maintenance of unmanned aerial vehicle electronic equipment including ground control stations, ground data terminals, and ground support equipment in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, technical orders, procedures, and regulations. The role involves conducting technical analysis, evaluating product implementation to ensure customer specifications are met, troubleshooting technical problems, and providing guidance and training to internal and external customers regarding equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate UAVs, ground control stations, and ground support equipment and all subordinate systems at operation locations.
• Analyze customer requirements and evaluate product implementation to meet specifications and end‑user applications. Assess customers' needs for data interface and recommend actions for coordinative product solutions.
• Provide technical support on the installation, configuration, application, and repair of products and systems to customers at operational locations.
• Perform troubleshooting and repair of ground and airborne electronic equipment.
• Utilize product knowledge, sound judgment, and logical reasoning to determine technical solutions to moderately complex problems.
• Repair or replace components based on test results, intermediate system knowledge, technical documents, engineering instructions, schematics, blueprints, or written/verbal instructions.
• Perform installation, configuration, and test of computer hardware, software, and networked systems.
• Diagnose and correct malfunctions as required.
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on ground and airborne systems.
• Maintain required records and forms in accordance with company and customer specifications.
• Validate and verify accuracy of technical documents and procedures.
• Recommend changes to technical documents and procedures based on system knowledge and best industry practices.
• Fabricate, install, troubleshoot, and repair wire harnesses and assemblies.
• Ensure proper routing and clamping of wire harnesses and assemblies.
• Represent the group with internal and external customers and other personnel.
• Conduct training and practical instruction of peers and customers in the use of ground and airborne electronic systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
• Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

• Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a two‑year technical degree or trade school equivalency as well as six or more years' experience in aviation or electronics. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
• Must be able to perform a variety of non‑routine tasks and demonstrate considerable knowledge of avionics and electronic procedures and principles.
• Must also possess:
  • The ability to troubleshoot at the component level;
  • The ability to analyze data and recommend solutions;
  • Considerable knowledge and use of electronic test equipment, hand and soldering tools, voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices;
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics and technical orders; good analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and assess situations and make judgments.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
• Experience with maintain, troubleshooting and repairing RF systems is desirable.
• Experience with session layer protocol used on the Internet or local area networks to provide a bidirectional interactive text‑oriented communication facility using a virtual terminal connection also known as TELNET is highly desirable.
• Knowledge in File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is desirable.
• Certification in A+, Network+, and Security+ is highly desirable.
