JAX Mercantile Co. in Lafayette, CO is hiring for a Full-Time Department Manager in our JAX Outdoor Gear, Farm and Ranch location.

You will lead daily department operations, manage staff schedules, and ensure outstanding customer service for customers seeking horses, livestock, pets and ranch life products. The ideal candidate has prior retail leadership experience, strong communication skills, and a willingness to pitch in and help across duties, including inventory, merchandising, and pricing.

Qualifications

• Previous retail leadership experience
• Experience in managing schedules and staff

• Comfort with learning new technology or computer systems
• Ability to work retail hours, including weekends and weeknights
• Knowledge of horses, livestock or pets and ranching tasks is a plus

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service and support department operations
• Coordinate with buyers team to give product feedback and plan promotions
• Create schedules two weeks in advance and ensure coverage
• Lead by example in assisting customers and maintaining safety and cleanliness
• Manage inventory, pricing, record-keeping, and reports
• Assemble new stock and ensure a well-stocked, organized area
• Engage and inspire department staff and promote teamwork
• Complete special orders and prevent loss through awareness

Our Department Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service. The role supports overall department operations by providing employee orientation and development, scheduling coverage, managing performance, leading by example when assisting customers and finding ways to improve the service provided by JAX. Duties include coordinating with the buyers team to provide feedback on products, visual merchandising with product displays, managing inventory, stocking, and organizing the department. Additional tasks include:

• Creating schedules two weeks in advance
• Ensuring coverage by working with employees or stepping up fill gaps when necessary
• Providing honest and informative answers about our products
• Addressing loss prevention concerns
• Participating in inventory responsibilities
• Assembling new stock
• Maintaining a clean and well-stocked area
• Complete record-keeping and creating reports
• Completes special orders
• Coordinates with others to plan for sales and promotions
• Ensure proper documentation and pricing of products
• Works to engage and inspire teamwork with department employees

Our ideal candidate is experienced in retail management, is willing to pitch-in and help, is well-organized, takes initiative, communicates well, and has an engaging and positive approach to customer service. Knowledge, skills and abilities desired for this position include:

• Previous experience and interest in retail leadership required
• Experience with raising and care of horses, livestock or pets and other ranching tasks
• Knowledge of the brands carried by JAX preferred
• Prior top-notch customer service experience
• Prior retail lead or supervisory experience
• Comfort and adaptability with learning new technology or computer systems
• Ability to be flexible and work retail hours
• Engaging and positive
• Effective trouble-shooting skillsAbility to present and maintain a professional demeanor

Schedule Requirements

• Must be available at least one weekend day and at least one week night
• Flexible availability required

Pay Range

$18.00 - $20.00 hourly
