Department Manager Responsibilities

All managers share responsibility for maintaining standards, following the World Wide Wings Manager Description, and fulfilling the following job‑specific duties.

  • Heart of House Department Manager
    • Primary responsibility for the Heart of House area.
    • Managing all food/product matters and staff planning within the HOH.
    • Ensuring a safe environment and improving profitability through revenue and labor management.
    • Assisting the General Manager with restaurant operation oversight.
    • Supervising day‑to‑day operation of the restaurant during shifts.
  • Bar Department Manager
    • Supervises restaurant operation during shifts.
    • Primary responsibility for the Bar Department.
    • Manages adult beverage matters, ordering, inventory control, and RAS compliance.
    • Plans, hires, trains, develops and motivates Bartenders and Bar Servers.
    • Maintains a safe environment and profitability through revenue management.
  • Hospitality Manager
    • Supervises restaurant operation during shifts.
    • Primary responsibility for the dining room service.
    • Manages hospitality staff planning and development.
    • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Team Management
    • Responsible for staffing, succession planning, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientation, training, and development of Department Team Members.
    • Ensures department staffing meets guidelines.
    • Provides WCT training and maintains certification.
    • Creates action/development plans for direct reports.
    • Coordinates hiring decisions with other managers.
    • Creates weekly department schedules within labor guidelines.
    • Creates incentive programs and contests.
    • Provides performance feedback, appraisals, and merit increases.
    • Assists GM with coaching managers on performance management.
    • Oversees training during training weeks.
    • Utilizes support teams when needed.
    • Provides coaching and follows up to ensure service standards.
    • Communicates effectively and holds departmental meetings.
    • Ensures all Team Members have current state training and permits.
    • Actively identifies techniques to attract guests.
    • Manages Guest Comment program and handles food quality complaints.
    • Utilizes GEM program to provide feedback to Team Members.
  • Quality Operations (Heart of House)
    • Facilitates new food product rollouts.
    • Ensures Team Members meet quality standards, recipe adherence, and portioning.
    • Communicates with food vendors and holds them accountable.
    • Ensures menu specs, wall charts, and systems are used.
    • Communicates areas of opportunity.
    • Helps GM coach managers and Team Members on quality, service, cleanliness, and inventory.
    • Understands and analyzes P&L, GEM, QSCs, audits, and identifies issues.
    • Creates action plans and follows up.
    • Conducts administrative manager functions.
    • Monitors equipment and reports repair needs.
    • Ensures compliance with Board of Health and food safety practices.
    • Corrects BOH & Steritech issues.
    • Facilitates new bar product rollouts.
    • Communicates with bar vendors and holds them accountable.
    • Ensures bar systems are used.
    • Communicates areas of opportunity to Bar staff.
  • Bar Operations Quality
    • Understands and analyzes P&L, GEM, QSCs, audits.
    • Creates action plans and follows up with Bartenders & Bar Servers.
    • Conducts administrative manager functions.
    • Ensures bar equipment functions properly.
  • Sales & Profit (Heart of House)
    • Responsible for food cost and operating within variance.
    • Responsible for labor results, operating within SPLH targets.
    • Orders food, paper products from vendors.
    • Maintains inventory levels.
    • Establishes projections.
    • Understands P&L and creates action plans.
    • Completes other duties.
  • Bar Sales & Profit
    • Ensures bar cost tools usage.
    • Responsible for beverage costs and labor results.
    • Maintains inventory levels.
    • Understands sales & profit goals and troubleshoots.
    • Manages waste, comps, voids, discounts.
    • Creates bar sales incentive contests.
  • Hospitality Sales & Profit
    • Assists GM with local marketing.
    • Creates sales incentive contests.
    • Completes other duties.
  • Other Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • At least 2+ years of restaurant or hospitality management experience.

  • High school education or equivalent; valid driver’s license for traveling between units; satisfactory background check; ability to lift 50 lb regularly.
  • Completion of Buffalo Wild Wings Management Certification program.
