Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Department Manager for the Buildings Engineering Services team in Rochester, NY. Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers, advancing projects from concept through completion to enhance facilities and communities.

You will drive strategy, manage budgets, and foster client relationships while ensuring high-quality technical deliverables and profitable project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in Mechanical Engineering design fields required.
• Professional Engineering license in New York and reciprocity with other states required.
• Previous industrial and academic project experience preferred.
• Demonstrated effective leadership across large groups of employees.
• Ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships which support the success of the Company.
• Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and efficiently, planning, organizing, and managing procedures, protocols, and/or staff to achieve desired outcomes for projects and programs.
• Effective delegation abilities to design and engineering employees.
• Strategic and outside the box thinking.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and manages operations to ensure the quality of the technical products.
• Establishes effective long-range objectives, goals, and plans for assigned team.
• Provides technical and management leadership to the assigned team.
• Develops marketing program in conjunction with discipline goals.
• Advises and assists professionals in other groups when expert knowledge and expertise is required.
• Manages activities so an adequate profit is earned on all projects.
• Reviews monthly productivity and labor hour utilization‑rates, reports and adjusts as needed.
• Assigns projects to staff and schedules work.
• Evaluate Employee Performance in accordance with company policy.
