Job summary

Amcor in Oshkosh, Wisconsin seeks an experienced Plant Operations Leader to manage the Converting department, safety, quality and productivity for a 100+ hourly workforce. You will lead a 4-supervisor team in a large plant environment.

The role requires a technical bachelor’s degree and 7+ years in manufacturing with 5+ years of supervisory leadership. You’ll drive safety, continuous improvement and cost control while aligning with Amcor’s values and business goals.

  • A Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory/leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works with the EHS Manager to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Establishes, maintains, communicates, and enforces safety, quality, waste and productivity standards to meet plant goals.
  • Oversees and manages the Performance Control System (PCS) for the department including KPI development, auditing shift meetings, and leading department meetings.
  • Drives CI opportunities with the Plant Leadership team and updates standards after CI projects.
  • Provides performance feedback to the department and individual employees on standards.
  • Supervises salaried Shift Supervisors and handles hiring, termination, recognition, discipline, training and salary administration.
  • Ensures BP teams are represented and implements changes from BP recommendations.
  • Ensures investigations are completed for injuries and incidents with timely follow-up actions.
  • Recommends capital projects and documents ROI and KPI per Amcor policies.
  • Investigates customer complaints and implements corrective actions.
  • Maintains SOCs and productivity standards; promotes best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Promotes a strong safety culture and adheres to Amcor values.
  • Meets plant business plan and KPI targets and operates within budget.
  • Manages manpower, materials and machinery efficiently; develops direct reports.

Job Description

Manage all aspects of the Converting (pouching) department including safety, quality, productivity, cost and culture in accordance with established procedures, standards and customer requirements. This role is located in a large plant, has 4 supervisors as direct reports, and has oversight to more than 100 hourly employees.

What You Get To Do
  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works in conjunction with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain all policies and programs to assure a safe working environment.
  • Establishes, maintains, communicates, and enforces safety, quality, waste and productivity standards to meet plant goals. Maintains department housekeeping per 5S and GMP (Good Mfg. Practices) standards. Maintains quality standards consistent with customer’s and the company’s requirements.
  • Oversees and manages the Performance Control System (PCS) for the department including establishing key performance indicators (KPI’s), auditing Supervisor/Operator shift meetings, and leading department meetings. Ensures that standards are met and action item registers are maintained to document, communicate, and eliminate exceptions.
  • Works with the Plant Leadership team to determine the greatest continuous improvement opportunities in the department. Assists with the execution of CI efforts to address the opportunities and ensures standards are updated and adhered to following close out of each improvement team.
  • Provides feedback to the department and individual employees on performance against standards.
  • Supervises salaried staff of Shift Supervisors. Is responsible for all elements of supervision including hiring, terminations, recognition, discipline, training, employee relations, performance management and salary administration.
  • Ensures that Best Practice teams related to process discipline have appropriate representation. Implements changes based on recommendations of the BP team where applicable.
  • Ensures that investigations are completed for any injuries, incidents and near misses and that follow‑up action items are completed in a timely manner.
  • Recommends capital projects and ensures needs, ROI and KPI related to these projects are documented and submitted per Amcor policies.
  • Ensures customer complaints are investigated, and corrective actions are implemented and evaluated for effectiveness according to established standards. This includes staff involvement and communication of the issues to crews.
  • Ensures that accurate Standard Operating Conditions (SOC’s) are in place and followed. Maintains productivity standards based on SOC’s, best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Promotes a strong safety culture and environment.
  • Adheres to Amcor values and actively contributes to a high‑performance culture.
  • Meets or exceeds plant business plan and KPI’s.
  • Operates within established budget.
  • Best Practices establishment & execution.
  • Effective, cost‑efficient planning and utilization of manpower, materials and machinery.
