Job summary

IES is a national provider of industrial products and infrastructure services across electrical, mechanical, and telecom contracting markets. The Department Manager will recruit, train and supervise staff, manage project profitability and scopes of work, and act as the liaison with customers to ensure service excellence.

The role requires 7+ years supervisory experience in telecom or related fields, strong MS Office skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and reports.

Qualifications

  • Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Must have experience in customer interface, such as liaison between the customer and the Company.
  • Must possess a minimum of seven (7) years supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to supervise multiple direct reports – exempt and non-exempt.
  • Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, manage and supervise department staff; handle HR issues per policy and compensation changes.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Manage workload distribution of department staff.
  • Plan for and monitor project profitability to meet company goals.
  • Manage scopes of work including structures like cable, AV, security, life safety, estimating or BIM.
  • Participate in or facilitate bid processes.
  • Oversee quality and safety on customer work.
  • Act as liaison with customer representatives.
  • Create and implement account process improvements.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job description

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. The Department Manager will recruit, hire, train, manage, supervise, promote, discipline and discharge, if necessary, all department staff. Effectively manage all human resource issues (and elevate as needed) per Company policies and procedures. Complete recommendations for employees’ performance ratings, promotions and pay changes.
  2. Provide guidance and mentoring to meet all department goals and objectives.
  3. Manage the workload distribution of department staff.
  4. Plan for, manage, monitor and maintain project profitability to achieve Company goals.
  5. Manage scopes of work that may include structured cable, audio-visual, security, life safety, estimating or BIM.
  6. Participating in and/or facilitating the bid process.
  7. Manage all related quality and safety issues on customer work.
  8. Act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  9. Create, develop and implement account process improvement(s).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).
  • Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must able to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to learn Company and customer project management systems.
  • Must be able to successfully secure and maintain a Company-sponsored American Express Card.
