Job summary

Pharmavite in Opelika, Alabama, is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee repair and maintenance of buildings, plant equipment, and manufacturing systems, with emphasis on safety and performance.

Position Summary

Supervises repair and maintenance of buildings, plant equipment, and manufacturing equipment; schedules preventive and predictive maintenance; assists in the development of safety programs.

Responsibilities

• Leads and supervises all maintenance processes and operations.
• Schedules planned maintenance activities, including preventive and predictive maintenance, major equipment overhauls, and facility and site improvements to reduce equipment failure and downtime.
• Directs computerized maintenance systems to ensure data acquisition and equipment histories are accurate and complete.
• Supervises, trains, and develops department staff to enhance the quantity and quality of employees’ work.
• Assists in the development of a comprehensive safety program and maintains safety work order records to ensure a safe working environment.
• Recommends, processes, and approves equipment improvements and supervises installation of engineering controls and equipment updates.
• Assists in developing a comprehensive departmental budget to keep the department within budgetary guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Requires one to two years of college or 8+ years of maintenance/technical experience.

Certification

None.

Experience

Requires five to eight years’ experience in food or CGP in a maintenance/technical discipline. Requires 5+ years of supervision in a technical discipline. Background knowledge in Facilities is a must.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Competent knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance programs; requires good oral and written communication skills and good computer skills. Good mechanical and electrical aptitude. Ability to manage a 7‑day‑a‑week, 24‑hour‑a‑day operation.

Physical Requirements

General manufacturing environment. Ability to work weekends as required. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise. Daily exposure to physical risks such as mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards. Ability to stand, sit at a desk, walk around the office and plant; lift and carry packages up to 50 pounds; use fine dexterity; reach, kneel, crawl, and twist to inspect equipment. Requires ability to see, hear, and communicate with employees and others using professional etiquette.

Supervisory Responsibility

The incumbent has direct supervisory responsibility for up to 15 employees.
