Job summary

LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans seeks a Department Coordinator to provide administrative support to the Department Head and faculty within Microbiology Genetics Immunology- MGI.

Responsibilities include calendar management, travel arrangements, purchasing, reimbursements, and coordinating seminars, conferences, and grant-related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Two years of work experience are required.
  • A Master's degree can substitute for two years of experience.

  • Track expenditures and progress reports; assist scientists and business office.

Job Summary/Basic Functions

As an integral member of the Department of Microbiology, Genetics & Immunology, the Department Coordinator will provide administrative support to the Department Head, faculty, and business office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: prepare correspondence; maintain the Center Director's calendar and schedule meetings; coordinate travel arrangements and handle all prior approval and reimbursement requests; prepare correspondence and reports using computer programs including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and Power Point; handle purchasing and reimbursement requests; coordinate all aspects of seminar series, lectures, conferences, and other department events; provide support for pre- and post-award grant processes; assist with NIH biosketches, tracking expenditures, and progress reports. This position supports the mission and goals of the Department of Microbiology, Genetics & Immunology while assisting a dynamic team of scientists.
