Job description

Job Summary

The College of Humanities and the Arts is seeking a Department Analyst to support the Department of Film and Theatre. Reporting to the Director of Resources and Operations and receiving work lead direction from the Department Chair, the Department Analyst provides administrative and analytical support related to budget administration, office operations, academic processes, faculty recruitment, and department events. The position serves as a liaison between the department and university offices while supporting the continuity and effectiveness of daily department operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and reconcile department budgets, expenditures, payroll reports, purchasing, travel, reimbursements, and financial records
  • Provide daily administrative and customer service support to the Department Chair, faculty, students, visitors, and campus partners
  • Coordinate department meetings, events, communications, office resources, websites, and social media
  • Support faculty recruitment, onboarding, evaluations, curriculum processes, and the maintenance of confidential academic and personnel records
  • Hire, train, schedule, and provide work direction to student assistants
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner

  • Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports
  • Command of English grammar, business writing, punctuation, and spelling
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget monitoring practices and policies and procedures
  • Ability to analyze budgetary data, conduct preliminary analyses and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques
  • Ability to monitor computerized records, and to research and correct data errors
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the workgroup and serve as a liaison for the department
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently, and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist
  • Ability to analyze operations and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan projects

Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Business or a field related to disciplines in the College
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative work experience including office management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Excel (including formulas and pivot tables), and Google Suite
  • Experience leading others
  • Experience tracking multiple budgets and accounts, customer service experience
  • Experience planning and coordinating events or projects
Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist – Non-Exempt
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,967/month - $6,208/month (Step 12 – Step 14)
CSU Salary Range: $4,799/month - $6,992/month (Step 1 – Step 20)
