Job description

As a Dentist with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will have an opportunity to deliver trusted care with strong support from experienced staff. This role allows you to focus on patient needs while enjoying a balanced schedule. You will play a key part in improving oral health outcomes for the inmate population at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale. Your work will help strengthen the overall standard of care within the facility.

This position ensures that inmates receive proper dental care through thorough evaluations, treatments, and follow up instruction. As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Clinical Care: Conduct periodontal exams and provide restorative and preventive treatments
  • Treatment Planning: Create treatment plans based on medical history and diagnostic results
  • Staff Leadership: Guide dental assistants and hygienists in meeting required standards
  • Operational Review: Evaluate schedules and documentation to maintain quality service
  • Inventory Control: Oversee supplies, equipment, and safety requirements
  • General Duties: Support daily operations through assigned tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, four days per week, with a 30-minute lunch break and rotating days off. You will not be required to work evenings or on-call duties.
  • Eligible for full retirement benefits as early as age 55
  • DEA License renewal and liability insurance is covered by the Commonwealth
  • Up to 50 hours of additional paid leave for job-related continuing medical education
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:
  • You must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
