Job description

Role Overview

The Dentist works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing dental services to patients. The role involves performing dental procedures and services based on initial dental assessments and plans, as well as imparting health education information and techniques to patients.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
  • Assess dental needs and refer patients to dental specialists or medical providers as needed, using medical staff protocols for referral, follow‑up, and quality assurance
  • Provide comprehensive dental care, services, and preventive health education/techniques to patients in compliance with standard procedures
  • Perform dental procedures and services within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practice
  • Observe, assess, and record patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatment progress
  • Prescribe medications and provide patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed
Team Support
  • Work with the dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completion
  • Provide dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and available
  • Provide supervision, consultations, and instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as needed
  • Serve as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHC
Clinical Administration
  • Accept additional patients into the schedule, as needed
  • Accommodate patients with urgent dental needs, including walk‑ins
  • Minimize rescheduling of patients; provide instructions if necessary
  • Complete and submit daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services rendered
  • Work with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenues
  • Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements
  • Assist management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants, as needed
  • Participate in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in‑servicing trainings
  • Contribute to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activities
  • Complete legible and legally defensible dental records
Education and Experience
  • Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) required
  • Valid DEA license and current CPR/AED certification required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA)–approved source required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment
    • AHA‑approved courses include an in‑person, hands‑on skills check with a certified instructor using a mannequin to demonstrate CPR and emergency response techniques.
    • Online‑only BLS courses without a live skills check do not meet this requirement.
AdditionalQualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with dental terminology and dental science
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with theories, methods, and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and the required corrective treatment
  • Knowledgeable of current principles, method, and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment; knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care
  • Knowledgeable of relevant drugs and non‑pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
  • Ability to provide hands‑on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility, and responsiveness
  • Ability to perform in high‑volume and emergency situations
  • Knowledge of community‑based dental environment
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent planning and organizational ability
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner

Pay range

$77.55 to $124.08 per hour depending on experience, education and additional qualifications.
