Job summary

La Clínica de La Raza seeks a dentist to deliver comprehensive general dentistry to diverse communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will perform exams, restorations, extractions, and preventive care while coordinating with physicians on medical/dental issues.

The position includes mentorship for AEGD residents, participation in a cross‑functional team, and involvement in staff conferences, with a commitment to culturally competent care and community health.

Qualifications

• DDS/DMD from an accredited dental school.
• California license to practice dentistry
• DEA registration number
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in general dentistry and/or clinic administration
• Cultural competence in working with diverse/low-income communities

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive general dentistry services to patients.
• Perform oral exams, restorations, extractions, prophylaxis, and patient education.
• Diagnose and treat dental diseases and plan treatments.
• Write prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications as needed.
• Collaborate with physicians regarding medical/dental issues.
• Mentor and collaborate with residents and other staff in a cross-functional team.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Dental Care Delivery

• Handle all aspects of general dentistry
• Perform oral exams, restorations, extractions, and prophylactic work
• Treat oral diseases and consult with physicians regarding medical/dental problems
• Assign patients to plaque control or other educational programs
• Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using instruments, x‑rays, or other diagnostic equipment to evaluate health and plan treatment
• Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, or malformations of teeth, gums, or related oral structures and provide preventive or corrective services
• Write prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications
• Formulate treatment plans for patients’ teeth and mouth tissues

Patient Experience

• Advise or instruct patients on preventive care, causes and treatment of dental problems, and available services
• Use masks, gloves, and safety glasses to protect patients and staff
• Design, make, or fit prosthodontic appliances such as space maintainers, bridges, or dentures, or write fabrication instructions for dental assistants

Mentorship & Collaboration

• Serve as volunteer faculty for UCSF and Lutheran Medical Center to assist the Associate Dental Director in mentoring AEGD residents
• Act as a member of a cross‑functional dental team that provides exceptional care and performs four‑handed dentistry and oral surgery
• Attend staff conferences; maintain clinical and other records of services, supplies, and materials used

Minimum Job Requirements

Knowledge

• Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including drug properties, interactions, and preventive measures
• Good time‑management skills and evidence‑based approaches to dental care
• Understanding of patient‑service principles and processes, including quality standards and satisfaction assessment
• Working knowledge of Practice Management System software

Abilities

• Deal courteously and effectively with patients and maintain good working relationships with staff
• Operate all types of dental equipment and machinery
• Identify potential problems, recognize when issues arise (diagnostic, not necessarily corrective)
• Execute precisely coordinated hand movements to manipulate small objects
• Work across cultures and support diversity, equity, and inclusion
• English/Spanish proficiency preferred but not required

Experience and Other Certifications

• Graduation from an accredited dental school; valid D.D.S. / D.M.D.
• One year of experience in all phases of general dentistry and auxiliary utilization or administrative experience in a clinic setting
• License to practice in the State of California
• DEA number
• Cultural competence working in diverse/low‑income communities
