Job summary

Wellpath is seeking a part-time Dentist to provide dental services to inmate patients within the assigned facility, following security regulations and ensuring proper documentation for compensation. The role emphasizes independent, high-quality care in a correctional health setting.

Ideal candidates have a dental degree, state licensure, CPR certification, and at least one year of general dentistry experience. This position offers a limited weekly shift with potential coverage opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of dental medicine.
  • One year of experience in general dentistry preferred.
  • Must have and maintain current licensure as a dentist in the state of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides dental care and treatment to referred patients in accordance with facility regulations and standards.
  • Performs routine cleaning, restorative dentistry, and extractions as needed.
  • Evaluates patients' dental care needs and makes clinically appropriate recommendations.
  • Takes impressions for dental appliances and instructs patients in good dental hygiene techniques.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential patient records and provides in-service training for health staff members.

How you make a difference

The Dentist is responsible for providing dental services to inmate patients within the institution they are assigned to, while adhering to the security regulations of the facility. They are required to maintain accurate and timely documentation of their services and provide it to the director or designee to ensure compliance with client contract and proper compensation for services rendered .

Additional Details

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in general dentistry and be comfortable providing comprehensive dental care in a correctional healthcare setting.

Responsibilities include dental examinations, routine cleanings, restorative procedures, extractions, impressions for dental appliances, patient education, and responding to dental concerns and emergencies as needed.

Experience working with underserved or justice-involved populations is helpful but not required.

This is a part-time position consisting of one 8-hour shift per week, with occasional opportunities or need to provide additional coverage when the primary dentist is out of the office.
