Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago seeks a Chief of Dental Service to lead the dental department and provide expert clinical care.

The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on dentistry as you manage operations, performance, and patient care standards. Responsibilities include administration of the Dental Service in line with VHA policies, developing metrics, ensuring credentialing and peer review processes, and driving service quality

Responsibilities

• Provides the administration of the Dental Service in compliance with applicable VHA Handbooks, Directives, policies and procedures.
• Develops performance metrics for all provider classifications to drive performance and direct desired behavior.
• Oversees fiscal oversight of the Service and monitors compliance with VHA Quality Indicators (QI).
• Engages in facility Quality Improvement activities and ensures credentialing/privileging processes with active OPPE/FPPE.
• Uses patient satisfaction data for service improvement and manages HR policies and labor relations per the Union Master Agreement.

Summary

The Chief - Dental Service is the primary subject matter expert to the Jesse Brown VAMC facility leadership on all oral health care matters. The Chief - Dental Service is responsible for planning - organizing - leading - and controlling the operations of the dental service - as well as serving as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems.

Duties

• Duties include but not limited to: Provides the administration of the Dental Service in compliance with applicable VHA - VISN - Medical Center and Dental Service Handbooks - Directives - Policies and Procedures
• Maintains Service compliance with a) VHA Handbooks and Directives - b) VISN Policies - c) Medical Center Memorandum and d) Service Policies and Procedures pertinent to dental clinic management Develops performance metrics for all provider classification to drive performance and to direct desired behavior
• Responsible for fiscal oversight of the Service Monitors compliance with the VHA national dental Quality Indicators (QI) that are published monthly
• Actively engaged in facility Quality Improvement activities - including compliance with the VA credentialing/privileging process and ensuring that an active Peer Review process (OPPE - FPPE) is in place for Dental Service providers
• Engaged in Service Recovering and have knowledge of patient satisfaction data sources
• Uses customer service data for service improvement
• Operates a sound personnel performance management system in compliance with the Union Master Agreement and HR policies including VHA labor relations policies VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package
