Job summary

Cherry Health is seeking a Dental Therapist to deliver direct patient care under a licensed dentist and Written Practice Agreement in Michigan. You will perform procedures within your scope, supervise a small clinical team, and collaborate with a diverse patient population.

Strong compliance and record-keeping skills are essential. Ideal candidates have a CODA‑compliant dental therapy program, an active Michigan license, and 2–4 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Preference for 2–4 years of dental therapy experience.
  • Ability to work under supervision of a licensed dentist within a Written Practice Agreement.
  • Willingness to travel between facilities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and treatment as part of a dental team under supervising dentist.
  • Perform full range of procedures within scope per Written Practice Agreement.
  • Supervise up to 3 dental assistants and 2 dental hygienists.
  • Collaborate with diverse staff and patient populations.
  • Attend required departmental and external meetings.
  • Adhere to compliance policies and ethics standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Overview of Position

Responsible for providing dental care consistent with accepted professional standards. Promotes general dental health, prevents oral disease, and provides disease treatment by performing the duties outlined in this job description. Works under the supervision of a licensed dentist and provides treatments within the authorized scope as detailed in the Written Practice Agreement. Must adhere to the organization’s policies, procedures, code of ethics, and all licensing and accreditation standards of the position. Must represent the organization’s mission in all actions and communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care and treatment as part of a dental team, delivering clinical treatments in collaboration with the supervising dentist via a Written Practice Agreement.
  • A dental therapist licensed by the State of Michigan may perform the full range of procedures within their scope, pursuant to the Written Practice Agreement.
  • Supervise no more than 3 dental assistants and 2 dental hygienists in a single practice setting, as defined in the Written Practice Agreement.
  • Work effectively with diverse and multicultural staff and patient populations.
  • Attend departmental, internal, and external meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Understand and adhere to the organization’s compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and organizational regulations, laws, and policies as they currently exist and as they change or are modified.

  • Demonstrate clinical competence.
  • Function independently with limited supervision.
  • Handle stressful situations effectively and with a calm demeanor in all situations.
  • Apply cultural sensitivity when working with persons and groups from diverse racial, ethnic, economic, and social backgrounds.
  • Possess efficient computer skills and experience with electronic records systems.
  • Hold Basic Life Support/CPR training according to the requirements of license and/or certification.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Fulfill travel requirements between facilities as needed.
Education / Licenses / Certificates
  • Successful completion of a dental therapy educational program that meets the standards of the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Current Michigan dental therapy license without restrictions.
Experience

Preference is given to professionals who have 2–4 years of experience as a Dental Therapist or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.
