Job summary

U.M. FDSP Associates PA is seeking a Sterilization Support Technician to assist with preparation, cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments. The role involves handling supplies, operating autoclaves, and maintaining accurate logs to support clinical operations.

Under supervision, you will prepare instruments, document procedures, and ensure compliance with universal precautions. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and about 1 year of related healthcare experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1 year of related experience in materials management or central sterilization.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and follow written/oral instructions.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, push/pull carts, and lift items as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments for sterilization and decontamination.
• Operates washer/sterilizer, heat sealer, autoclave, and sonic washer.
• Adjusts and records pressure, temperature, and time per procedures.
• Sorts and stores sterilized instruments in appropriate areas.
• Pre-packages cassettes, wraps and labels for identification.
• Loads instrument carts and transports to clinic or service areas.
• Receives, inspects, and verifies return of contaminated instruments.
• Files and logs instrument movements in the database; handles requisitions.
• Maintains logs of supply transactions and arranges supplies on shelves.
• Performs routine clerical duties such as answering phones and filing.

Under direct supervision, provides clinical supportservices involving sterilization, preparation, distribution, collection, andstorage of medical supplies and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Preparesinstruments for sterilization and decontamination.
2. Operateswasher / sterilizer, heat sealer, autoclave, and sonic washer to clean,decontaminate, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
3. Adjustsand records pressure, temperature, and time in accordance with standardprocedures.
4. Sortsand stores sterilized instruments and equipment in appropriate area.
5. Pre-packagescassettes wraps cassettes in sterile paper and attaches identificationlabels.
6. Loadsinstrument carts with cassettes, supplies, and equipment according topatient care requirements.
7. Transportscarts to appropriate clinic or service area.
8. Receives,inspects, and verifies return of all contaminated instruments fromstudents and faculty.
9. Transportsthese to Central Sterile Unit.Initiates procedures regarding missing or damaged instruments.
10. Logsinstruments in and out using manual or bar code system. Enters and retrieves data fromcomputerized database.
11. Completesrequisitions to order supplies.
12. Receives,unpacks, labels, and places supplies in proper order on shelves or clustercabinets.
13. Maintainsand updates logs and records of supply transactions.
14. Compilesand files documents such as packing slips, purchase requisitions, andvendor information.
15. Observesuniversal precautions regarding the handling of infectious waste.
16. Performsa variety of routine clerical duties such as answering phone, taking andrelaying information, and filing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1year of related experience in materials management, central sterilization orsimilar healthcare setting.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Abilityto perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to follow oral and writteninstructions. Ability to communicateeffectively orally and writing. Abilityto perform extensive standing and walking. Ability to push and pull carts ofsupplies to make deliveries around the building. Ability to lift, stock shelves, and loadcarts of supplies and equipment. Abilityto maintain accurate and up-to-date records and logs. Ability to wear and work in personalprotective equipment. General knowledge of universalprecautions regarding the handling of infectious waste.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employeesin this job class may be required to receive immunization shots to preventillness due to exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Overtime, weekend, on-call and shift workmay be required.
