Basic Requirements for Dental Laboratory Technician:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) fitting prostheses to meet the most exact specification required by dental standards; 2) scanning dental impressions to create fixed digital or stone models; and 3) checking for correct occlusion of prostheses by mounting on articulators to adjust, as necessary. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a Master's Degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Dentistry.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 36. Add the two percentages.

OR

Licensed Dentist: Licensed professional dentists will be considered qualified for any grade level if they have, in the aggregate, the required experience in dental laboratory procedures.
