Job Summary

The main responsibility of the Dental Hygienist is to provide dental services to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Center consistent with training and standards established for this profession, and allowed under the license from the State of Washington Department of Health.

Responsibilities
  • Practice dentistry in an ethical manner, meeting the standards of the dental hygiene profession and in accordance with the Washington State Dental Practice Act.
  • Supervise the clinical activities of dental assistants according to the Washington State Dental Practice Act.
  • Be current in basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Provide dental care under strict methods of aseptic control and in a manner that results in patient, staff and dentist safety.
  • Acquire new knowledge and skills contributing to high quality dental care.
  • Coordinate patient care by seeking consultations or referrals to other health professionals when necessary.
  • Utilize staff and patients' time efficiently to maximize productivity and patient satisfaction.
  • Use appropriate procedure codes consistent with the dental services rendered.
  • Participate in designated Quality Improvement activities of the Dental Program and of Sea Mar Community Health Centers when assigned.
  • Help make dental care available to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Center and to the public by participating in activities that promote dental and oral health in the community.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Current and valid license from the State of Washington Department of Health and a Dental Hygienist’s contract with Sea Mar Community Health Center.
  • Provide dental hygiene services to patients under the supervision of staff dentists and the administration of the Dental Director and the Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, meeting productivity goals established by Sea Mar.
  • Supervise clinical activities of dental assistants, dental trainees and/or volunteers assisting the hygienist.
  • Successfully complete a dental hygiene program in an accredited School of Dental Hygiene approved by the State of Washington and complete the national boards for dental hygienists.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or other health professionals.
  • Ability to calculate basic mathematical figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Basic understanding of bio-statistical analysis concepts.
  • Proof of COVID vaccine required.
