Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an ADA accredited school of dental hygiene.
• Experience: None
• Must be licensed to practice dental hygiene in Virginia.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• Continuing education courses in dentistry and management of special patients advisable.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patient's oral health and hygiene status, performs necessary x-rays and prophylaxis.
• Maintains care and safety of patients during treatment.
• Provides oral hygiene instruction with patient or caretaker and follows up.
• Follows policy and procedure manual for sterilization and cleaning of operatories.
• Assists other dental team members as needed with delivery of patient care.
• Under supervision, provides direction to patients, caretakers, and students.
• Communicates treatment progress with physicians, patients, families and team.
• In hospital practice, exposure to infectious disease and various physical demands are expected.
