Job summary

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington is seeking a part-time Dental Hygienist to support preventive dental care in our DC clinics. The role includes conducting periodontal assessments, performing prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, sealants, desensitization, and patient education, with emphasis on clear communication.

Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited hygiene program, hold a DC RDH license, carry malpractice insurance, and have experience serving the Latino community;

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Registered dental hygienist license in DC.
• Possess appropriate state hygiene license and malpractice insurance.
• Experience working with the Latino Community.

Responsibilities

• Ensure good communication with patients in the delivery of dental care.
• Perform periodontal assessment, charting, radiographs, and examination.
• Conduct intraoral and extraoral exams, periodontal charting, oral cancer screening, and TMJ evaluation.
• Make appropriate referrals for dental/periodontal needs.
• Provide prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, fluoride treatment, sealants, desensitization.
• Present and sign dental treatment to patients.
• Provide oral hygiene instructions and education to patients.
• Supervise dental hygiene students and evaluate clinical performance.
• Conduct oral surveys using dental indices.
• Administer local anesthesia.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Hygienist reviews a patient's medical and dental history and chief complaints, assesses dental and periodontal status, and provides preventive and therapeutic service. The position ensures that all services are discussed with the patient before they are performed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure good communication with patients in the delivery of dental care.
• Perform clinical evaluation of patients:
  • a. Perform periodontal assessment, including charting and accretions.
  • b. Evaluate dental needs of patient with use of radiographs and examination.
  • c. Conduct extraoral and intraoral exam, periodontal charting, oral cancer screening and temporal mandibular disorder evaluation.
  • d. Make appropriate referrals for dental/periodontal needs.
• Perform clinical treatment:
  • a. Prophylaxis
  • b. Scaling and root planning
  • c. Fluoride treatment
  • d. Sealants
  • e. Desensitization
• Present and sign dental treatment to patients.
• Provide oral hygiene instructions and oral health care education to patients.
• Supervise dental hygiene students and evaluate clinical performance.
• Conduct oral surveys and studies using dental indices.
• Administer local anesthesia to manage and alleviate dental pain and anxiety.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program.
• Registered dental hygiene license in DC.
• Possess appropriate state hygiene license and malpractice insurance.
• Experience working with the Latino Community.

Work Schedule

20 hours per week. Monday and Thursday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Tuesday or Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
