Job summary

WJM Professional Services, LLC is recruiting a Dental Hygienist to provide temporary services for the United States Coast Guard in Yorktown, VA. The role supports the dental clinic's patient care, documentation, and administrative activities onsite.

The Hygienist will perform comprehensive hygiene procedures, radiography, infection control, and maintain records in line with Coast Guard and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

• Must have a dental hygiene credential from an accredited program.
• Active, unrestricted dental hygiene license/certification in any US state or territory.
• Current BLS certification from an approved provider.
• At least 1 year of recent clinical dental hygiene experience.
• No adverse information on file with the NPDB.
• Ability to meet clinic professional standards.
• Ability to maintain credentialing documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide dental hygiene services to Active Duty beneficiaries presented for care.
• Perform patient history, examinations, testing, including blood pressure screening, and diagnosis within the hygienist's scope.
• Perform dental prophylaxis, including ultrasonic and hand scaling, tooth polishing, and oral hygiene instruction.
• Perform infection-control procedures, including disinfection and sterilization, and use barrier techniques and universal precautions.
• Perform radiography, including bitewings and periapicals, and provide fluoride treatments.
• Maintain recall lists and assist with routine Active Duty screenings.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and maintain the operatory per clinic standards.
• Maintain schedules and coordinate with other departments and staff.
• Maintain patient records and electronic health records per Coast Guard requirements.
• Assist the Dentist and consult with the Dental Officer.
• Maintain referral logs and coordinate specialty-care appointments.
• Review and verify patient eligibility per DEERS guidelines.
• Enter daily patient information into health information systems.
• Provide evaluation and management of emergent problems alongside scheduled visits.
• Perform digital radiology procedures and image management.

Key Responsibilities

The Dental Hygienist will provide a full range of comprehensive Dental Hygiene procedures and practices onsite and support the dental clinic's patient care, documentation, and administrative activities.

• Provide dental hygiene services to Active Duty beneficiaries presented for care.
• Perform patient history, detailed examination, testing, including blood pressure screening, and diagnosis within the Dental Hygienist's authorized scope.
• Perform dental prophylaxis, including ultrasonic and hand scaling, tooth polishing, and oral hygiene instruction.
• Perform infection-control procedures, including disinfection and sterilization, and use appropriate barrier techniques and universal precautions.
• Perform extraoral and intraoral radiography, including bitewing, periapical, and occlusal radiographs, and provide fluoride treatments.
• Maintain recall lists and assist with routine Active Duty screenings.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and maintain the operatory according to clinic standards.
• Maintain schedules in accordance with clinic SOPs and coordinate with other healthcare departments and clinic staff.
• Maintain patient records and electronic health records in accordance with applicable accreditation and Coast Guard requirements.
• Assist the Dentist as needed and consult with the referring Dental Officer.
• Maintain referral logs, schedule and track specialty-care consultations, and notify patients of appointments.
• Review and verify patient eligibility in accordance with DEERS guidelines.
• Enter daily patient information into clinic health information systems and maintain required healthcare records and reports.
• Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems in addition to regularly scheduled appointments.
• Perform digital radiology procedures, including radiograph image management using computer software.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Clinic Administrator within the applicable scope of practice.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certification from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
• Current, unrestricted, active license/certification to practice Dental Hygiene from one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification for the Health Care Provider from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety & Health Institute, or American College of Emergency Physicians.
• Minimum of one year of recent clinical experience immediately preceding submission.
• No adverse information on file with the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB).
• Ability to meet the clinic's professional standards and perform within the capabilities normally granted to a Dental Hygienist.
• Ability to maintain the required credentialing documentation, including proof of insurability and recent employer recommendations.
