The Director reports to the Department Chair, overseeing curriculum, assessment, admissions, and faculty development, and collaborates with the School and VCU Health System to advance

Qualifications

  • Masters degree or higher in dental hygiene education or related field.
  • Graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
  • Eligible for licensure in Virginia.
  • Certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience as a hygienist.
  • Didactic teaching experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential.
  • For tenure-eligible positions: established research agenda and potential for external funding.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate program assessment activities on an annual basis.
  • Directs the coordination and recruitment of faculty including schedules, teaching assignments and evaluation.
  • Provide leadership for program curriculum development, evaluation and revision to ensure student success.
  • Assess program mission and goals, ensuring alignment with school and university plans.
  • Plan and operate program administration; initiate faculty development.
  • Prepare faculty contracts.
  • Chair the dental hygiene admissions committee and determine criteria and procedures.
  • Maintain CODA compliance and accreditation readiness.
  • Collaborate with department chair and Dean; represent the program on committees.
  • Coordinate budgets and instructional needs with the department chair.
  • Schedule and conduct program meetings.
  • Serve as academic advisor; provide student guidance.
  • Serve as course director and manage clinical instruction and syllabi.
  • Chair the dental hygiene class committee and liaise with the Progress Committee.
  • Maintain the program website and university bulletin.
