Description of Position
Diablo Valley College ( DVC ) in Pleasant Hill welcomes faculty with a vision of excellence in instruction and an ability to employ various formats and styles in support of successful student learning. DVC seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding.
The primary teaching assignment may include theory and clinical instruction of dental hygiene students with the goal of helping students fulfill mastery of entry-level competencies. Teaching assignments may include, but not limited to Clinical Dental Hygiene, Head and Neck Anatomy and Local Anesthesia.
All dental hygiene program faculty must maintain current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching, and documented background in current educational methodology concepts consistent with teaching assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities
The applicant must possess the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience
California Code of Regulations Title 16, Section 1105.1 (Dental Hygiene Board of California): States that dental hygiene faculty must possess a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or higher from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the Department of Education or Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Newly hired employees may notify the respective union (Local 1 or United Faculty) if they opt to join and/or authorize payment to the union. If the newly hired employee authorizes payment to the union then the following fees apply: Local 1 has a one-time initiation fee of $45.00 and monthly contribution of 1% of gross pay +$1. United Faculty has an agency fee of .55% of gross pay plus $2.50.
