Position Type: Full‑time Staff, Exempt

Position Summary

In collaboration with the DHY Program Director, the Academic Coordinator oversees didactic instruction in the Dental Hygiene (DHY) program at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), including quality assurance of instruction, oversight of part‑time faculty, updating program manuals, ensuring course content is current, assisting the DHY Clinical Coordinator in supervising students in the dental clinic, and monitoring student retention and completion. The Coordinator participates in student recruitment, orientations, assessment activities, program analysis, student support, workforce development, and technology integration. Additional duties include instruction in classroom, laboratory, clinical, hybrid, and online formats, tutoring support, and ensuring compliance with college policies, CODA standards, CDC guidelines, OSHA standards, and ADA recommendations. The role requires in‑person presence; the Coordinator teaches 30–36 FLH annually, including summer, and is identified as faculty for CODA reporting purposes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction, teach and supervise students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings, review and revise course content, assist with curriculum development and sequencing, develop course and laboratory schedules, and aid the Clinical Coordinator with clinic operations, patient care supervision, quality assurance, student clinical evaluation, and communication with supervising dentists, patients, and community partners.
  • Coordinate assessment of curriculum effectiveness, maintain academic records, monitor student progression, retention, and completion, manage surveys for students, graduates, and employers, and conduct program and course assessment activities in compliance with LOA and CODA standards; assist with CODA accreditation compliance activities, annual reporting, accreditation documentation, faculty‑to‑student ratio compliance, and site visit preparation.
  • Conduct information sessions, participate in recruitment, outreach, and marketing events; advise and mentor students; support remediation and tutoring; assist with SGA and SADHA activities; participate on advisory boards and committees; support employment and career preparation; assist with workforce development initiatives and collaboration with the Career Center and community employers; and support student retention, progression, engagement, and completion initiatives; participate in community outreach activities and partnerships that support oral health access and workforce development.
  • Maintain and monitor laboratory, simulation, radiology, and clinical equipment; keep repair logs, coordinate repairs with vendors, assist with inventory and supply ordering, support hazardous waste management and infection control compliance, and manage and implement dental software systems, educational technologies, simulation equipment, digital radiography, Dentrix Enterprise, and digital clinical systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Dental Education; maintain Maryland Registered Dental Hygienist licensure, CPR certification, continuing education, and immunization compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Active Maryland Dental Hygienist License, CPR Certification, Local Anesthesia Certification, and Nitrous Oxide Certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Dental Hygiene teaching experience (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with CODA accreditation standards and guidelines
  • Experience with Learning Outcomes Assessment (LOA) and accreditation reporting
  • Experience implementing standard operating procedures and health/safety regulations
  • Experience supervising students in laboratory and clinical settings
  • Experience with dental clinic operations and patient care workflows
  • Experience with Dentrix Enterprise or equivalent dental software systems
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, students, patients, and community members
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel for conferences and workshops
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, dental technology systems, and educational technologies
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Inventory management experience
  • Experience with curriculum design and course content evaluation
