Job summary

Lake Superior Community Health Center invites a seasoned Chief Dental Officer (CDO) to lead dental services, set clinical standards, and drive quality across the care continuum. You will collaborate with the Dental Clinic Manager and senior leadership to develop programs, improve access, and champion performance improvement while guiding risk management.

Applicants should hold a DDS and a Master’s in public health, health care administration, or related field; three years leadership in dentistry

Job description

Position Summary:

Serve as the organization’s chief dental officer (CDO) providing leadership and direction for dental services and clinical quality consistent with organizational goals and strategies. Responsibilities include working with the Dental Clinic Manager on dental service and program development; setting clinical standards/guidelines and quality metrics; developing collaborative referral and consultative care, and championing clinical performance improvement. Works with the CEO and Manager of QI, Compliance and Risk to fully implement the risk management plan and participates in risk management-related activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the development of clinical goals, outcomes, and strategies for prevention, acute care, and chronic disease management.
• Set clinical practice standards/guidelines and quality metrics; be a champion for change to newer and better practices.
• Lead the adoption of new technology, e.g. . EHR, digital radiography, to improve patient information and care across the continuum (referrals, hospitals, medical).
• Work collaboratively with the Dental Clinic Manager and other health center leadership team members to design and implement programs and services to meet identified population needs.
• Work with the Dental Clinic Manager to ensure business objectives are met through improved access and monitoring of productivity.
• Provide leadership for “best practices” and optimal utilization of resources.
• Lead initiatives related to disease management to improve clinical outcomes and increased payments for care coordination.

8. Lead by developing and embracing the organization’s strategy and mission to all staff; ensure activities are value-added and aligned with community/market need.

9. Recruit, supervise, and manage dental provider resources including credentialing, annual appraisals, and peer review.

10. Provide direct clinical care as an integral member of provider staff.

Secondary Responsibilities:

1. Participate in short and long-range planning and evaluation.

2. Serve as member of senior leadership; represent LSCHC at CHC and community meetings as required.

3. Maintain professional affiliations and enhance professional development to keep current in industry trends and issues.

Supervision Received:

Independent decision-making within areas of responsibility and organizational policy.

Consult with CEO/senior leadership and external resources as necessary.

Supervision Provided:

Directly supervise dentist (DDS) and licensed dental therapist (LDT) staff.

Infection Control and Safety Program Responsibility:

Ensure staff understand and are compliant with universal precautions and right to know.

Typical Working Conditions:

Must be able to integrate leadership and oversight responsibilities with daily operations.

Local and regional travel required.

May include evening and/or weekend work.

Knowledge of health care environment, reimbursement, and regulatory requirements.

Experience:

Three years direct patient care and leadership experience in similar position preferred.

Education/licensure/registration:

DDS; Master’s in public health, health care or business administration or related field
