Job summary

DENTAL ASSISTANT – PRN

Essential Functions

• Assist and anticipate the needs of the dentist and anesthesia provider regarding instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies as per technique, procedure and special requirements.
• Prepare for dental surgical cases by picking supplies and equipment, ensuring all necessary items are available, and maintaining inventory and the stock room.
• Familiar with procedures performed; know and understand dentist preferences.
• Provide care based on the age‑related needs of the pediatric and adolescent patient, considering developmental/psychosocial needs, environmental safety, educational needs, communication style, and level of understanding.
• Assist with patient transfer from bed to gurney.
• Decontaminate and maintain all equipment, instruments, supplies and clean surgical rooms between cases and at the end of the schedule as directed by the RN.
• Follow the surgery center's manufacturer’s and CDC guidelines for decontamination and sterilization.
• Takes x‑rays; clean and check x‑ray equipment.
• Mix cement and other materials as required.
• Handle suction hand‑pieces and air/water syringes.
• Assure delivery of all specimens to the RN Circulator in the room.
• Stock and clean rooms between cases and at the end of schedule; assist with turnover of the OR.
• Assist as directed in the delivery of emergency care.
• Perform front‑desk duties and patient service coordination.

Position Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited dental assistant program.
• Current state license to practice as a registered dental assistant.
• One year of RDA experience.
• Current BLS certificate.
• Background and drug screening required.
• 30‑40 hours a week (full time).
