Job summary

Pima Medical Institute's El Paso campus is seeking a Substitute Dental Assistant Instructor to provide high-quality classroom and lab instruction on an as-needed basis.

This role is perfect for a practicing RDA, CDA, or Licensed Dentist looking to share hands-on skills with eager adult learners during morning hours (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) without leaving direct practice.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant program OR a minimum of three (3) years of related occupational experience if graduating from a non-accredited program.
• Minimum of two (2) years of practical work experience in dental assisting (or general dentistry).
• Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), or Licensed Dentist in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-planned dental assisting lesson plans, lectures, and hands-on lab training (including four‑handed/six‑handed dentistry, chairside assisting, and infection control).
• Grade student assignments, clinical lab competencies, and exams within 72 hours of submission.
• Address academic or behavioral concerns proactively, connecting students with campus resources and leadership as needed.
• Maintain precise and timely student attendance logs, early alerts, incident reports, and academic records.
• Enforce strict OSHA, HIPAA, and safety guidelines across classroom, laboratory, and clinical areas.
• Participate in campus faculty meetings, in-service workshops, and advisory board events when applicable.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery & Student Engagement:

• Classroom & Lab Facilitation: Deliver pre-planned dental assisting lesson plans, lectures, and hands‑on lab training (including four‑handed/six‑handed dentistry, chairside assisting, and infection control).

Minimum Qualifications

• Core Competencies: Demonstrated proficiency in four‑handed and/or six‑handed dental assisting methods, chairside techniques, and Texas dental regulations.




• Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
