Job summary

Utah Navajo Health System (UNHS) seeks a Dental Assistant to join our Monument Valley, UT clinic. This full-time position supports dentists, sterilizes instruments, handles X-rays, patient records, and helps ensure efficient, compassionate care in a dynamic team environment.

The ideal candidate has formal Dental Assistant training or equivalent on-the-job experience, a strong customer-service mindset, and the ability to multi-task while following established procedures.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare patient, sterilize/disinfect instruments, set up trays, assist dentist.
• Record medical/dental histories and vital signs.
• Expose dental diagnostic X-rays.
• Make preliminary impressions for study casts; mount casts.
• Perform digital scans and pour/trim study casts.
• Fabricate temporary restorations and removable appliances.
• Assist in dental emergencies and patient hygiene instruction.
• Polish teeth and apply fluoride; maintain clinical records.
• Perform X-Rays for dental patients and ensure safety.
• Support team with additional tasks as requested.

Description

Our clinic is a dynamic place to work, practice, and grow. We have 4 primary care health centers s and deliver integrated services including behavioral health, Pharmacy, Dental, specialty referrals, chronic disease management, health education, and much, much more. UNHS is hiring a Full-Time (FT) position for a Dental Assistant.

• Locations: Monument Valley, UT

1. Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures.
2. Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.
3. Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays.
4. Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
5. Performs digital scans.
6. Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations.
7. Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
8. Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
9. Polishes teeth
10. Cleans teeth.
11. Applies protective coating of fluoride to teeth.
12. Perform X-Rays for dental patients.
13. Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other UNHS management or administration that is at all reasonably related to UNHS and/or the Employee’s employment with UNHS.
14. Possible exposure to radiation.
15. Assist in maintaining and updating clinical records.

Requirements

• Must have had formal Dental Assistant training (school) or sufficient prior on-the-job Dental Assisting experience.
• Must be able to work well with others.
• Must have an excellent work history and customer service mindset.
• This person will also be expected to assist other staff when help is needed.

In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, UNHS has implemented an affirmative Actin Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. The NPEA has the following preferences:

1) Enrolled Navajo (must have a CIB).

2) Applicant married to an enrolled Navajo and who has lived on the NN for more than a year.

3) Everyone else (all other tribes and non-Indians).

As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:

• MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
• Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
• Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
• Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
• Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
• Influenza vaccine for the current year.
• Any other vaccinations as requested.
