Job summary

UPMC is seeking a clinically oriented Dental Assistant to support delivery of dental care under general supervision. You will greet, seat and prepare patients, assist in the clinic, OR and satellite locations, and ensure rooms are properly stocked and maintained.

Responsibilities include taking and pouring study model impressions, taking radiographs, mixing cements, placing topical anesthetics and rubber dams, passing instruments with four-handed techniques, and coordinating with the Clinic

Qualifications

• Dental assisting experience preferred.
• Strong patient and family communication.
• Ability to maintain sterilization and infection control standards.

Responsibilities

• Page, greet and seat patient. Weigh patient if applicable. Prepare electronic documents including discharge summary and school/work excuse.
• Assist in the clinic and hospital OR and Satellite locations including proper room set up, chair side assisting and clean up in accordance with hospital and clinic standards.
• Take and pour study model impressions, trim and finish cases, mail and receive appliances and models from laboratories
• Give and receive accurate and complete information to parents and doctors while displaying professionalism.
• Perform all necessary housekeeping procedures including keeping all work areas properly stocked. Manage spills and patient accidents
• Take and develop radiographs of a consistent, good diagnostic quality for review by dentist.
• Mix various cements and materials and place topical anesthetics and rubber dams on patients.
• Pass instruments to the Dentist/Orthodontist during Dental/Orthodontic examinations and procedures using four handed dental assisting techniques.
• Maintain equipment and supplies with oversight from the Clinic Coordinator.

Under general supervision, this person performs duties associated with the delivery of clinical dental care. Interacts favorably with patients, parents, co-workers, supervisors, dentists, and other Hospital staff in a dignified manner so that the Department's operations are orderly, efficient and consistent with Hospital decorum and high standards of professionalism.

• Schedule:
  • Dayshift | As scheduled between 7:00 am - 5:30 pm

  • Mon-Fri | No Weekends or Major Holidays
