Job summary

Aspen Dental in Florida is seeking an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to support doctors and the DA team. You will help maintain smooth patient flow, assist during procedures, and ensure sterilization and infection control standards are met.

The role requires chairside proficiency, radiology certification, CPR/BLS, and CE maintenance. Experience in four-handed dentistry and patient education is valued, with a strong collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Current Dental Assistant license/registration as required by state.
• Radiology (X-ray) certification as required by state.
• Current CPR or BLS certification.
• 2+ years' experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Proficient at chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry.
• Maintain and update annual CE requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with directing the DA office team to maintain productive patient flow.
• Assist doctors during a variety of treatment procedures.
• Breakdown operatory rooms for doctors and hygienists.
• Complete sterilization processes for equipment and operatory.
• Follow maintenance schedules for waterlines, autoclave, and compressor.
• Tray and operatory set-up for all procedures.
• Support patient charting for doctors at a proficient level.
• Train others to execute patient handoffs and monitor patient flow.
• Follow OSHA regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
• Take dental radiographs (X-rays).
• Provide patients with oral care instructions post-treatment.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene strategies.
• Complete denture relines and temporary crowns.
• Monitor and assist in management of laboratory cases.
• Perform intraoral health scans under 5 minutes.
• Order and maintain supplies; manage practice budget.
• Perform additional expanded functions based on certification.

How You’ll Make a Difference As an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, you will perform daily duties to help create lasting impressions and build trust and loyalty with patients.

1. Assist with the direction to DA office team throughout the day to maintain productive patient flow.
2. Assist the doctors during a variety of treatment procedures.
3. Breakdown operatory rooms for doctors and hygienists.
4. Complete sterilization processes for equipment and operatory and ensures all staff is properly trained and compliant on the process.
5. Follow maintenance schedules for flushing waterlines/suction lines, and/or waterline testing, autoclave, and compressor on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
6. Tray and operatory set-up for all procedures.
7. Support patient charting for doctors at a proficient level.
8. Ability to train others to execute patient handoffs and monitor patient flow within the practice.
9. Follow OSHA regulations and Aspen safety requirements, including compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
10. Take dental radiographs (X-rays).
11. Provide patients with instructions for oral care following all dental treatment procedures.
12. Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
13. Complete denture soft relines and manufactures temporary crowns.
14. Monitor and aid in management of laboratory cases.
15. Perform quality intraoral health scan of patients under 5 minutes.
16. Understanding of clear aligner process with the ability to articulate and teach.
17. Ability to take quality impressions and bite registrations.
18. Perform additional expanded functions based on certification(s) to support patient care (coronal polishing, restorative functions, etc.).
19. Ensures emergency kits and oxygen tanks are maintained.
20. Ability to order and maintain supplies in accordance with practice budget.
21. Perform various office tasks as necessary.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Current Dental Assistant License, Registration, Certification as required by state.
• Radiology (x-ray) certification as required by state.
• Current CPR or BLS certificate.
• 2+ years' experience as a Dental Assistant.
• Proficient at chairside assisting/four-handed dentistry.
• Demonstrate and provide instruction on proper sterilization and infection control techniques.
• Maintain and update annual CE requirement as specified by state.
• State Certification in expanded functions as required by state.
