Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital seeks a pediatric dental assistant to support our dental care team. You will prepare treatment rooms, take x-rays, assist dentists, and educate patients and parents to promote oral health.

Responsibilities include sterilizing instruments, passing tools, charting procedures, and managing materials. Requires two years of chairside experience and an Ohio radiography license; Expanded Function certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited dental assistant program or equivalent experience.
• Current license to practice dental radiography in Ohio.
• Board Certified Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary in Ohio.
• Two years of chairside assistant experience.
• Strong communication and patient education abilities.
• Good manual dexterity and ability to manage emergencies.

Responsibilities

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

• Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols.
• Assists dentist in managing dental emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
• Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist’s access; suctioning; passing instruments.
• Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth.
• Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
• Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.

Education Requirement:

Graduate of an accredited dental assistant training program or the equivalent in applicable experience, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Current license to practice dental radiography in State of Ohio, required.

Certifications:

Board Certified inExpanded Function Dental Auxiliary in State of Ohio, required.

Skills:

• Robust communication skills, required.
• Demonstratedability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients.
• Possesses good manual dexterity.
• Abilityto monitor nitrous oxide and patient after analgesia is administered.

Experience:

Two years of experience as a chairside assistant, required.
