Qualifications

Job Title: Dental Assistant

Location: Sundance Dental Care of Grants

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dedicated dental team. As an essential part of our practice, you will play a key role in creating a smooth and comfortable environment for our patients, ensuring high-quality care while supporting the dentist in both clinical and administrative tasks. Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Comfort: Welcome and prepare patients for treatments or check-ups, ensuring their comfort and addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Assist with Procedures : Set up instruments, equipment, and materials needed for dental procedures. Assist the dentist through 4-handed dentistry and ensure the dental room is well-prepared for each procedure.
  • Instrument Sterilization & Safety: Follow proper sterilization procedures and ensure that all dental instruments are sanitized in compliance with health regulations.
  • Lab Tasks & Post-Operative Care: Assist with lab tasks as directed and provide patients with post-operative care instructions.
  • Record Maintenance : Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, assisting with patient charts, treatment documentation, and payment procedures.
  • Scheduling & Office Support: Assist in scheduling patient appointments and ensuring the office runs smoothly with minimal disruptions. Keep the dental room clean, organized, and well-stocked.
  • Regulated Tasks : Perform non-surgical tasks such as coronal polishing, if certified, and assist with other regulated tasks as allowed by local regulations.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Completion of an EFDA course approved by the NM Board of Dental Health Care or accredited by CODA
  • OR 5+ years of dental assisting/hygiene experience with board-approved coursework and dentist recommendation
  • Current NM certifications in radiography, coronal polishing, topical fluoride, and sealants

Successful completion of:

  • EFDA clinical exam

  • NM jurisprudence exam (75% or higher)

  • Board-approved apprenticeship (within 180 days of permit)

  • Formal training in infection control from a board-approved course

  • Skills & Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of dental instruments, sterilization methods, and infection control protocols.

  • Familiarity with dental procedures and treatments.

  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a dental office.

  • Experience with dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) is highly preferred.

  • Clinical Competence : Ability to perform regulated non-surgical tasks, such as coronal polishing, and assist with other dental procedures.

  • Communication & Patient Care: Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with patients, providing clear instructions and ensuring their comfort.

  • Organization & Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Team-Oriented : Ability to work effectively in a team environment while providing high-quality patient care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional Certifications : Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), Radiology Certification, or Dental Hygiene Assistant certification.
  • Language Skills : Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus but not required.
