Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full‑time employee in Bargaining Unit 20 and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part‑time employees are subject to the same conditions as full‑time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time‑base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full‑time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Dentist, Correctional Facility (CF), and/or Supervising Dental Assistant, CF, and the clinical direction of the Dentist, CF, the Dental Assistant, CF performs supportive dental procedures under the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Dental Board of California Dental Practice Act, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Dental Program, Health Care Department Operations Manual (HCDOM), policies and procedures. The Dental Assistant, CF assists in the related work of a dental office, maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and directs their duties, and protects and maintains the safety of persons and property.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience as a dental assistant. (Training in a school for dental assistants may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of three months of training being equal to six months of experience.)
