Job summary

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is seeking a Dental Assistant 3 to perform clerical and clinical duties in the Durant Clinic. The role supports dentists and manages the flow of the dental team with expanded function certifications. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, in Durant.

The position emphasizes patient education, radiography, sterilization, and administrative responsibilities to ensure high-quality care for CNHSA patients, including pediatrics.

Qualifications

• Must hold Dental Assistant Permit through the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
• Completion of two Dental Assisting Expanded Function courses.
• IHS Radiology Certificate within one year of hire.
• BLS Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Two years of dental assisting experience.

Responsibilities

• Patient education on proper oral hygiene and postoperative care.
• Ensure adherence to infectious control protocols during procedures.
• Take dental radiographs ensuring patient safety.
• Provide pediatric and adult cleanings with sealants and fluoride treatments.
• Mentor and provide feedback to Dental Assistant 1 and 2.
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and prepare trays.
• Handle scheduling, appointments, records confidentiality, and inventory.

Job description

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Dental Assistant 3 provides clerical and clinical duties in the Dental Clinic, is certified in multiple expanded functions, and supports dentists in providing dental services per the regulations set by the Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry. The Dental Assistant 3 will assist in managing the flow of the dental team.

Primary Tasks:

1. Patient education expert on proper oral hygiene techniques, postoperative care, and overall oral health.
2. Ensure all dental staff adhere to infectious control protocols when assisting the dentist during procedures, ensuring instruments, equipment, and materials are prepared and set up.
3. Take dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring patient safety and keeping abreast of latest techniques through continuing education.
4. Provide thorough pediatric and adult cleanings, applying dental materials including sealants and fluoride treatments during cleanings, performing supragingival scaling, placing alloy and composite restorations, utilizing expanded function certification.
5. Serve as a mentor, trainer and provide feedback to Dental Assistant 1 and 2
6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments, prepare trays for procedures and cleanings, and maintain dental equipment’s functionality.
7. Handle administrative tasks: scheduling, confirming appointments, managing patient records confidentiality, and overseeing dental supplies inventory to ensure continuity of care for CNHSA patients, specifically pediatric populations.
8. Collaborate with Dental Office Manager at all clinics to improve patient care and enhance staff efficiency.
9. Complete tasks as assigned to Dental Assistant Level 1 and 2.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
