Job summary

Family Dental Care of Wilmington is seeking an experienced Dental Assistant to join our team. You will greet patients, review health history, and provide education throughout treatment. Take x‑rays and assist dentists with a wide range of procedures in a fast‑paced environment, using Dentrix for scheduling and records.

You will follow OSHA and CDC safety protocols and help manage supplies. Minimum qualifications include dental assistant and/or x‑ray certification; 1+ year experience and Dentrix

Qualifications

  • Certification in dental assisting and/or X-ray certification as required by state act.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, customer-centric dental office environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Access to PHI and regular HIPAA training with data safeguards.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients and educate them throughout treatment.
  • Review patient health history to ensure quality care.
  • Take and process x-rays and other diagnostic assessments (iTero 3D, digital photography).
  • Provide four‑handed chairside assistance during procedures.
  • Utilize Dentrix for scheduling and record keeping.
  • Prepare treatment rooms following OSHA & CDC recommendations.
  • Manage supplies and inventory and place orders as needed.
  • Partner with providers to maximize office workflow.

About the Role
  • Greet and welcome patients from the start of their dental journey, sustain patient comfort and provide education throughout treatment.
  • Conduct a thorough review of the patient’s health history in order to provide quality care.
  • Take and process x‑rays and other diagnostic assessments (iTero 3D scanner, digital photography, etc.).
  • Provide superior chairside assistance (four‑handed dentistry) to supported dentists during a wide variety of procedures in accordance with the state dental practice act.
  • Utilize Dentrix for patient scheduling and record keeping.
  • Prepare treatment room with strict adherence to safety protocols and following OSHA & CDC recommendations.
  • Manage supply and inventory levels, as well as place and expedite orders as needed.
  • Partner with providers and team to implement Heartland Dental systems and maximize office workflow.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced and customer‑centric environment.
  • Dental assistant certification and/or x‑ray certification if required under the state dental practice act.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Access to minimum PHI necessary for performing job‑related functions; regular HIPAA training required. Must protect PHI and maintain data safeguards.
Preferred Experience
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in a dental setting.
  • Experience with Dentrix or other dental software.
  • Dental assisting school certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation; reasonable accommodations may be made.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and standing.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds at times.
  • Availability to attend virtual training sessions (or in‑person) periodically throughout the year.
  • Must undergo a tuberculosis (TB) test as part of the pre‑employment process (not applicable in FL & TN).
