Summary
The Dental Assistant-Clinical Expanded Function position is located at the Corporal Michael J Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dental Assistants at this level perform a broader scope of complex dental assisting duties, demonstrating advanced clinical skills.

Duties
Dental Assistants at this level serve in expanded function roles, performing complex work independently in various specialties. They must maintain current DANB certification and assist in many aspects of patient care, including clinical and clerical tasks, often without direct supervision.

Expanded Function Duties Include:

• Perform mouth mirror inspections.
• Gather diagnostic information.
• Perform pulp vitality testing.
• Set up operatory and surgical suites, and clean dental units.
• Possess advanced knowledge of dental instruments and procedures.
• Assist with routine dental procedures using four-handed dentistry concepts.
• Pass instruments safely and efficiently.
• Identify normal anatomy.
• Exhibit proficiency in dental imaging, including digital formats.
• Follow infection control procedures.
• Assist in managing schedule gaps and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Adjust care based on patient needs and provide instructions.
• Maintain DANB certification as required.
• Prepare impressions, study models, and manage prostheses.

Work Schedule: Mon.- Fri. 7:45am - 4:15pm
