Job summary

Affordable Smiles of Harvey in Harvey, LA is seeking a Dental Assistant to support the dentist and ensure patient comfort throughout procedures. You will prepare patients, take histories, assist with x-rays, and promote excellent oral hygiene.

Experience in dental assisting is preferred, and strong communication with patients is essential for providing compassionate, efficient care in a welcoming clinic.

  • Provide instruments and materials to dentist to maintain patient comfort and efficiency during exams.
  • Assist with dental emergencies per OSHA and office procedures.
  • Assist chair side during nitrous oxide administration.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control.
  • Take impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations.
  • Take and record patient medical and dental histories and vital signs.
  • Expose dental diagnostic x-rays.
  • Represent the practice professionally and maintain punctual attendance.
  • Support team in a fast-paced setting and handle multiple tasks.

Your responsibilities will include the following
  • Actively provide instruments and materials to dentist during exams and procedures in order to help maintain patient comfort and dentist's efficiency
  • Assist with dental and medical emergencies according to OSHA and office procedures
  • Assist chair side during administration of nitrous oxide
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts
  • Clean and polish removable appliances
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients
  • Record treatment information in patient records
  • Expose dental diagnostic x-rays
  • Must always represent the practice in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner
  • Must maintain regular, consistent and punctual attendance in accordance with assigned schedule and time off policies
  • Must be able to comfortably and efficiently handle multiple deadlines and task assignments
  • Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in team settings
  • Other duties and tasks, as assigned periodically

What It Takes
  • Prior dental assisting experienced preferred
  • A team-player mindset with the ability to stay calm and efficient in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong communication skills with a warm, patient-focused approach
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Standing and walking 80%

Sitting 20%

Moderate noise levels from dental and other lab equipment

Medical, office, and lab setting

Minimum lifting requirements of 35 pounds in order to transfer equipment and pack and unpack supplies.

Frequent bending, twisting, and position changes in order to examine and service patients.
