Job summary

Akahi Associates/Kako'o Services, LLC seeks a qualified dental assistant to support restorative, prosthodontic, and endodontic procedures at Columbis Medical Group on Columbis AFB.

The role emphasizes patient scheduling, history documentation, and assisting the dentist chair-side, with emphasis on sterilization and radiography. Military-related credentials and CODA accreditation are preferred.

Qualifications

• Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a CODA-accredited program.
• Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school.
• Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course.
• 36 months experience as a dental assistant in a private practice or military clinic.
• Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants.
• Graduation from a state-accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the last 12 months.
• All training includes radiation physics, radiation health and safety, and digital radiographic processing.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties in aiding in one or more phases of complex/difficult restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, or periodontal treatment. Receives and schedules patients for treatment.
• Obtains and records related to the medical history of patients. Charts examination and treatment information.
• Sterilizes instruments, materials, and equipment; prepares surgical trays.
• Assists dentist at chair side. Performs intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist.
• Takes preliminary impressions for study models, removes sutures, places and removes rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
• Relays dentist’s instructions to patient for post-treatment care. Instruct patients in dental techniques and care.
• Operates dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs.
• Pours and trims models from impressions and fabricates vacuum formed dental appliances.
• Maintains recurring reports related to dental activities.
• Coordinates and tracks referrals to off-base dental specialists through Active-Duty Dental Program.
• Assists in training of 3-level Dental Assistants according to the Career Field Education and Training Plan.

Education

CODA-accredited dental assistant/technician program

Military dental technician/dental assistant certification

Red Cross Dental Assistant course certification

36 months experience as a dental assistant

Membership in the American Association of Dental Assistants

Graduation from state accredited dental assistant/dental technology program (last 12 months)

Training includes radiation physics/safety and digital radiography

Overview

Location: Columbis Medical Group - Columbis AFB

Hourly Pay: $17.40/hr - $19.50/hr & Health & Wellness $4.93/hr worked (in lieu of benefits)

Schedule: Work schedule will be between 0730- 1630, Monday through Friday. Each shift includes an uncompensated one-hour (60 minute) lunch break. Schedule will be set at the discretion of their MTF section by their assigned supervisor and/or Flight Leadership. Contractors will not exceed 40 hours per week. The Contractor must provide projection of anticipated vacation day(s) or personal matters at least three (3) months in advance if possible. Any late requests made after the clinic schedule has been published must be routed and approved through their assigned supervisor and/or Flight Leadership

• Assists dentist at chair side. Performs intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist.
• Takes preliminary impressions for study models, removes sutures, places and removes rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
• Relays dentist’s instructions to patient for post-treatment care. Instruct patients in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.
• Operates dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs. Maintains, cleans, and performs minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.
• Pours and trims models from impressions and fabricates vacuum formed dental appliances.
• Maintains a variety of recurring reports related to dental activities.
• Coordinates and tracks referrals to off base dental specialists through Active-Duty Dental Program.
• Assists in training of 3-level Dental Assistants according to the Career Field Education and Training Plan provided by Dental Clinic Leadership.

Qualifications

Degree/Education: Certificate; Successful completion of one of the following:

• Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
• Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
• Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months’ experience within the preceding 36 months.
• 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.
• Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
• Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.
• All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.

Equivalency Determination Request: The Contractor may not request an equivalency determination as a substitute for education requirements on this labor category.

Certifications (in addition to Basic Life Support): Certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75.
