Job summary

Mamiye Brothers is seeking a passionate Denim Designer to lead the design and development of seasonal denim for women from concept through production. You will collaborate with Product Development, Technical Design, Merchandising, Sales, and overseas vendors to translate market trends into commercially successful collections.

The role requires strong knowledge of denim fabrics, fit, washes, and fabric development, with proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field.
  • 4–7 years of experience designing women’s denim for a contemporary or premium brand.
  • Strong knowledge of denim fabrics, garment construction, patternmaking, washes, fit, and finishing techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with PLM systems and product lifecycle management.
  • Excellent understanding of product development calendars and overseas manufacturing.
  • Strong sketching, CAD, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design seasonal women’s denim collections aligned with brand vision and objectives.
  • Research global fashion trends, fabrics, washes, colors, and finishes.
  • Develop concepts, mood boards, color palettes, fabric stories, and wash direction.
  • Create CADs, technical sketches, and line presentations using Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Build tech packs with construction details, BOMs, measurements, artwork, and specs.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and overseas factories to ensure design intent.
  • Lead fit sessions and refine fit, proportion, and garment performance.
  • Develop washes, distressing, laser treatments, embroidery, coatings, and finishes.
  • Review strike-offs and lab dips with clear vendor comments.
  • Present concepts and assortments in design reviews and sales meetings.
  • Stay informed on denim innovations and sustainable materials; explore AI tools.
  • Maintain organized design files, boards, samples, and digital assets.

Job description

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Denim Designer to join our design team. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of women’s contemporary fashion, denim construction, fit, washes, and fabric development, with the ability to translate market trends into commercially successful collections. This role will lead the design and development of seasonal denim assortments from concept through production while collaborating closely with Product Development, Technical Design, Merchandising, Sales, and overseas vendors.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Product Development
  • Design seasonal women’s denim collections that align with the brand’s vision, customer, and business objectives.
  • Research global fashion trends, vintage inspiration, consumer insights, competitive brands, fabrics, washes, colors, silhouettes, and trim innovations.
  • Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, color palettes, fabric stories, and wash direction.
  • Create detailed CADs, technical sketches, and line presentations using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Build comprehensive tech packs, including construction details, BOMs, measurements, artwork, and garment specifications.
  • Partner with Product Development and overseas factories to ensure accurate execution of design intent.
Fit & Wash Development
  • Lead fit sessions and collaborate with Technical Design to refine fit, proportion, comfort, and overall garment performance.
  • Develop denim washes, garment dye techniques, distressing, laser treatments, embroidery, coatings, and specialty finishes.
  • Review strike-offs, lab dips, wash samples, and prototype garments, providing clear comments to vendors.
  • Ensure products meet quality, cost, and margin objectives while maintaining premium design standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, and Production throughout seasonal development.
  • Present seasonal concepts and product assortments during design reviews and sales meetings.
  • Work closely with overseas factories and fabric mills throughout product development.
  • Support calendar management to ensure all milestones are achieved on time.
Trend & Innovation
  • Stay informed on emerging fashion trends, denim innovations, sustainable materials, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Research competitive brands and identify opportunities for product differentiation.
  • Leverage AI-powered design, visualization, and image-generation tools to enhance concept development and creative efficiency.
Organizational Responsibilities
  • Maintain organized design files, seasonal boards, sample libraries, and digital assets.
  • Ensure design documentation is accurate and up to date throughout the development process.
  • Assist in preparing presentation materials for internal meetings and customer line reviews.
