Job summary

A.F. Wendling Food Service is seeking a CDL A Delivery Driver to safely operate a tractor-trailer and unload deliveries to customer locations on an assigned route.

You will build relationships with customers through a positive, friendly attitude and work with our team to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include delivering orders, unloading with a two-wheeler and ramp, verifying items and signatures, collecting payments when required, and maintaining DOT logs

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license required and clean MVR per company standards.
  • Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMCSA.
  • Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to consistently adhere to a delivery schedule.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs and operate a tractor-trailer safely.

Responsibilities

  • Drive to deliver customer orders on an assigned route.
  • Unload products with a two-wheeler and ramp to customer storage areas.
  • Verify items delivered and obtain customer signatures.
  • Collect money (cash or check) where required.
  • Maintain DOT logs throughout the day.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete DVIR forms.
  • Park and secure truck; report discrepancies to management.
  • Maintain good relationships with customers and internal teams.

POSITION SUMMARY:A Delivery Driver is a licensed CDL A operator who safely and efficiently operates a tractor-trailer and manually unloads/delivers various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, dry goods, supplies, etc.) to customer locations on an assigned route schedule. Our truck drivers build relationships with each customer using their positive, friendly attitude and become familiar with their operations to meet needs and expectations as well as working closely with our team to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Maintain and foster a good relationship with the customer as a representative of A.F. Wendling Food ServiceDrive to and deliver customer orders according to a pre-determined routeUnload products from trailer, with a two-wheeler and a ramp, and place in designated customer storage areasVerify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signaturesCollect money (cash or check) where required. Contact management for authorization concerning discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors and returnsMaintain DOT logs as required throughout the dayPreform pre-trip duties including, but not limited to checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries, count items and check customer invoices of orders loaded, preform DOT pre-trip inspection on provided DVIR form.Preform post-trip duties including, but not limited to unload damaged goods or customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, turn in all collected funds, park and secure truck, complete DOT Post-trip inspection on provided DVIR form and turn in to company representativeEducation and/or Work Experience Requirements:Must possess a valid Driver's LicenseMust possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards. Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMCSA) regulationsAbility to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculatorBasic written and verbal communication skillsAbility to follow instructions and complete required trainingAbility to work independently and/or as a team memberAdhere to a Schedule Ability to understand and adhere to an assigned scheduleCritical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Time Management Skills - Managing one's own timeHS Diploma or equivalent,Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.Must have very strong urgency in meeting objectives and deadlines.Requires the ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.Ability to complete tasks under standardized situations with occasional variables.Physical Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truckPhysical ability to lift, carry, and position: up to 30 lbs. regularly, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.Must be able to constantly bend, reach above shoulder, grasp objects, climb, kneel, squat, twist and stand throughout shift.Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls.Working in multiple environments and inclement weatherWork Environment:Work hours may vary, or change based on department requirements.Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity.Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 80 pounds frequently.Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 100 lbs.Normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or driving a GPS monitored vehicle.Will be exposed to a physical environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the workdayACCOUNTABILITY:Perform all duties as listed in the job description and for following Company policy and procedures.Obtain goals and objectives as outlined in the job description and as determined by the Transportation Manager.Maintain good and effective working relationships among Company personnel, customers, vendors, and brokers.
