Description

SUMMARY

All company drivers are expected to practice defensive driving, maintain courtesy, and adhere to the rules of the road. Drivers are a very important part of company operations. Often they are the only contact a customer has with our company, and their actions can affect the profit and productivity of the company.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Maintain a current Colorado Drivers License.
2. Immediately inform the Branch Manager of any loss or suspension of license, accident, or injury.
3. Operate vehicle in a safe and courteous manner.
4. Assist consignee in unloading and placement of material at the job site.
5. Deliver and drop off materials to customers, obtaining proper signatures on invoices unless permission for delivery is approved by the customer or Branch Manager and noted on the invoice.
6. Pull orders for delivery, ensuring accuracy and securing the load.

Check vehicle for safety, fuel, and fluid levels before operating. Report malfunctions or safety hazards to the Branch Manager. Ensure registration, insurance, accident forms, and GTM information are in the glove compartment of all vehicles. Maintain emergency flares and fire extinguisher in the vehicle, and keep the invoice delivery log updated. Keep the vehicle clean when conditions warrant. Maintain an RGM book on the vehicle and inform the Branch Manager of returned materials and reasons. Contact the Branch Manager if customer hostility is encountered.

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform related duties in warehouse and shop as directed by the Branch Manager.
• General housekeeping.

Requirements

Knowledge, Physical, and Skill Requirements

• Minimum qualifications established by the U.S. Department of Transportation for interstate commerce. Drivers must be at least 21 years old and pass a physical examination every 2 years.
• Must complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check during background process with a good record.
• Physical requirements include good hearing, at least 20/40 vision with corrective lenses, and a 70-degree field of vision in each eye. Drivers cannot be colorblind or have conditions like epilepsy or insulin-controlled diabetes that disqualify them. Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to read road signs, prepare reports, and communicate with authorities and the public.
• Employers are required to conduct alcohol and drug tests, including periodic random testing.

Working Conditions

• Variable weather and traffic conditions, potential boredom, and fatigue. Work sites include residential and commercial construction sites, warehouses, etc.
• Involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Use of safety equipment such as glasses, boots, hardhats, and gloves is required. Loose clothing and jewelry are not permitted. Must withstand hot and cold environments. Driving constitutes approximately 70% of the work, with warehouse tasks making up the remaining 30%.
