Job summary

City of Altoona, PA is seeking a Delivery Driver to safely transport materials from the warehouse to customer job sites and unload as needed, placing materials in designated locations around each site.

You will assist with loading and unloading, returning damaged or excess materials to the warehouse, and restocking or disposing of them as directed. The role also includes general facility maintenance when not delivering.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–6 months of related job experience or training.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a PennDOT medical card.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs in a warehouse setting.

Job Description: Delivery Driver

The Delivery Driver position is primarily responsible for safely and accurately delivering materials from the company warehouse to customer job sites while driving various company vehicles. This role is expected to unload delivered materials, as required, to include placing the materials in predetermined specified locations around the job site. The Delivery Driver will also be responsible for returning damaged, unused, or excess materials from job sites to the warehouse and restocking or disposing of them as directed by the Delivery Coordinator or Warehouse Supervisor. This role will assist with general facility maintenance during hours not directly associated with the delivering or returning of materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safe and professional operation of company vehicles. This includes, but is not limited to: pick-up trucks, vans, trailers, and box trucks as required.
  • Delivery of materials, tools, supplies, etc. to the job locations in a safe and timely manner.
  • Removal and transfer of scrap/recycling to designated sites. This will require accepting payments for recycled material.
  • Keep all inventory items assigned to delivery vehicles in good working order.
  • Assist in the unloading of raw material. Raw material can be aluminum, steel, and glass. The material can be packaged in bulk or loose form.
  • Assist in the loading of finished material and supplies onto trucks and/or trailers.
  • May be required to receive delivery of material at, i.e., glass deliveries.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within delivery and warehouse operations.
  • Ensure proper load securement, weight distribution, and safe material handling practices for outbound and return shipments.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of vehicles, trailers, and loading processes.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • Report and address hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 3-6 months of related job experience and/or training.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • No moving violations in the previous 36 months and no major violations (ex., DUI or leaving the scene of an accident) in the previous 60 months.
  • Ability to obtain a PennDOT medical card is required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
Education

High school diploma or GED

Work Environment
  • Full-time position based in a warehouse environment with regular coordination with field operations.
  • Exposure to varying warehouse conditions and active work sites.
  • Combination of administrative coordination and physical material handling activities.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols and required personal protective equipment (PPE).

If candidate already has the medical card to drive box trucks or carry a CDL, they have the opportunity to make more money. This is a VERY physical demanding position.
