Job summary

Weis Markets, Inc. is seeking a Deli Associate to join our Maryland location. You will help keep deli service areas stocked and inviting, greet customers, and resolve questions with a professional, friendly demeanor.

The role involves slicing meats and cheeses, preparing ready-to-eat foods and platters, and following safe food handling procedures. You may handle the register and assist with inventory and receiving tasks as trained.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience Completed or working towards a High School Diploma or GED. No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing at all times, greets customers, answers questions, and resolves concerns politely.
• Ensures freshness and proper pricing on merchandise; rotates stock and handles spoiled or damaged items per procedures.
• Operates slicing equipment to prepare meats and cheeses per customer preferences; prepares ready-to-eat foods and platters.
• Follows safe food handling and recipe guidelines when preparing items such as chicken, pizzas, sandwiches, salads, etc.
• May operate the cash register and handle money; follows cash handling policies; compliance with tobacco/alcohol laws.
• Maintains sanitation in the department; follows cleaning schedules and health/OSHA requirements.
• Assists in inventory control through proper cooling, logging, and rotation practices.
• May assist with receiving/unloading and storing deliveries; training provided.
• Cooperates with coworkers and supervisors to ensure smooth department function; uses PPE as required.
• May assist in other departments as needed.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing at all times to meet customer demands. Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner.
• Ensures freshness and condition of merchandise in display cases along with proper prices and correct signs. Properly rotates product. Handles spoiled or damaged products or products close to expiration according to company procedures and standards.
• Operates slicing equipment to provide meats and cheeses based on customer preferences. Packages items and applies sticker showing price, weight, and date. Prepares ready-to-eat foods to individual order of customers. Prepares platters of sliced meats, cheeses and vegetable trays. Also requires safe use of knives/kitchen utensils.
• Adheres to company recipes and safety policies when preparing food such as chicken, pizza, sandwiches, salads and other various hot or cold food items.
• May operate and be responsible for cash register operations. Follows policies and procedures to ensure proper money handling to avoid cash overages or shortages. Adheres to company and state laws related to tobacco and alcohol sales.
• Responsible for general sanitation in the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
• Assists in inventory control through time and temperature practices. Minimizes losses by returning products to refrigeration, properly handling products, keeping necessary logs and following company recipes.
• May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
• May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack (if properly trained – training provided).
• Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
• Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
• May also be called upon to assist in other departments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.

RATE OF PAY AND BENEFITS

The hourly pay for this position starts at $16.00 and is up to $24.00.
