Job summary

Albertsons Companies Inc. is seeking a Deli Clerk for a Safeway location to prepare fresh foods and provide a welcoming customer experience.

You will slice meats, assemble grab-and-go items, and help customers select from deli meats, cheeses, and prepared foods while maintaining quick, friendly service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Operate slicers and food preparation equipment following safety guidelines.
• Basic math for weighing, portioning, and transactions.
• Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Prior food service or customer service experience preferred.

As a Deli Clerk, your day is centered around preparing fresh food and creating a welcoming experience for customers. You’re often the first stop for something ready to enjoy, helping customers choose from deli meats, cheeses, hot foods, and prepared items while keeping service friendly and efficient. From slicing meats to preparing grab‑and‑go options, your work helps keep customers coming back.

What You Bring To The Table

• Customer Interaction Skills: Clear communication when taking orders in person or by phone
• Food Preparation Skills: Experience preparing deli products, including slicing, assembling, and portioning
• Product Knowledge: Understanding of deli meats, cheeses, prepared foods, and hot case items
• Attention to Detail: Accuracy in portioning, labeling, pricing, and order completion
• Organization & Time Management: Managing multiple tasks while maintaining workflow and service speed
• Merchandising Awareness: Keeping display cases stocked, clean, and visually consistent
• Cash Handling: Processing transactions and making accurate change using register systems (varies by location)
• Operational Awareness: Following food safety, sanitation, and company procedures
• Adaptability: Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment with changing customer demand
• Physical Capability: Comfort with standing for extended periods, lifting product up to 35lbs, and working in varying temperatures
