Job summary

Defense One in Washington, D.C. is seeking an experienced staff reporter to cover air and space warfare, including the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and the companies they buy from. You will break news, write articles, and moderate live events.

We want enterprise stories that connect service branches to current events, reporting on news and leaders from the Pentagon to industry expos and chow halls. Experience in defense, military, or intelligence reporting is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of journalism experience related to defense and similar areas.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Digital newsroom skills.
• A spirit of generosity toward colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Report and write news on deadline.
• File frequent and clean copy.
• Travel occasionally to cover military operations, industry events, and more.
• Participate occasionally in news production, including posting to the site, editing photos, writing headlines and sending news alerts.
• Collaborate with other members of the Defense One newsroom.
