Job summary

The Georgia Public Defender Council is hiring a Criminal Investigator 1 in the Clayton Judicial Circuit to prepare reports and conduct investigations for clients charged with crimes. You will interview clients, collect evidence, perform scene investigations and locate witnesses to support defense theories.

Collaborate with attorneys to develop compelling defense strategies, maintain clear documentation, and communicate findings to stakeholders within the public defense system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and must meet the prerequisites and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program certification; or two (2) years of experience in law enforcement or related field and Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.
• --Note: Some positions may require the incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.

Responsibilities

• The Clayton Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking to fill a Criminal Investigator 1 position. This position prepares reports, plans and conducts investigations in defense of clients charged with criminal offenses, including client interviews, evidence analysis, scene investigation, witness location and interviews, records collection, and background checks.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, representatives of other agencies, clients, the public, and co-workers.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in investigations and case handling.
• Effectively communicate with system stakeholders, including community partners, clients/families, treatment providers, and others.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
