Job summary

Kiewit Foundations Co. is seeking a Superintendent to oversee field operations for our geotechnical foundation projects. You will lead crews, ensure safety, quality and on-time delivery, and work closely with engineers and subcontractors across North America.

Ideal candidates have deep foundation experience, strong leadership and problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to complex geotechnical construction work.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in planning, scheduling and management of deep foundation or ground improvement operations.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience as a superintendent.
  • Experience with foundation/ground improvement equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of pumping and placement of concrete and grout.
  • Strong all-around knowledge of ground improvement and deep foundation methods.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory direction of craft workers and manage productivity, safety, quality and schedule adherence for deep foundation projects.
  • Liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure drawings and specifications are followed.
  • Coordinate with other superintendents, subcontractors, and Kiewit staff to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties; inform management as appropriate.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determine labor levels, material quantities and equipment needs.
  • Ensure safety, attendance, and workplace policies are followed.

Position Overview

As a Superintendent, you will play a significant part in the success of Kiewit Foundations Co. by directly managing the execution of field operations. We rely on superintendents to set the highest expectations for their crews for safety, quality, schedule, cost performance, and team development. Every day, you will bring your hands‑on attitude to not only work on some of North America’s largest and most unique projects but also to build builders who will continue to shape our infrastructure for generations to come. A strong technical and practical background in specialty foundations and geotechnical construction is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are also considered critical to this position.

Responsibilities
  • Provide supervisory direction of craft workers via the general foreman and foreman, managing the performance of productivity, safety, quality and schedule adherence for deep foundation projects, which includes drilled shafts, micro piles, driven piles, auger cast‑in‑place piles, full displacement piles, soil mixing, support of excavation, anchors, tie‑backs, stone columns, and other geotechnical solutions.
  • Liaison between field engineering and craft to ensure compliance with construction drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with other superintendents and subcontractors, as well as Kiewit staff personnel and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing project and corporate management as appropriate.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure project rules, procedures and programs are followed consistently, including those involving safety, attendance, and workplace behavior standards as reflected in company’s non‑harassment and nondiscrimination policies.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in the planning, scheduling, and management of deep foundation and/or ground improvement operations.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience as a superintendent.
  • Experience with and broad knowledge of foundation/ground improvement equipment (drills, concrete pumps, batch plants), how to use it properly, and how to rapidly troubleshoot.
  • Knowledge of proper pumping and placement of concrete and grout.
  • Must be skilled in one or more of the following disciplines (pile driving, auger cast, small diameter shafts, micro piles, etc.).
  • Must be a self‑starter, highly motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit’s policies, procedures, and software programs.
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong all‑around knowledge of ground improvement techniques, structural deep foundation methods, and support of excavation (SOE) operations; ground improvement experience includes rigid inclusions, soil mixing, vibro‑replacement (stone columns), vibro‑compaction, compaction grouting, permeation grouting, jet grouting, and deep dynamic compaction. Structural deep foundation experience includes micro piles, drilled shafts, auger‑cast‑in‑place piles, and driven piles. Support of excavation experience includes secant piles, soldier pile anchors, and tie‑backs.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Compensation: $130,000/yr – $170,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
